Six new coronavirus cases in South Africa have been confirmed by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, increasing the number of cases in the country to 13.

No confirmed coronavirus cases in Namibia: Shangula
WINDHOEK, 11 MAR (NAMPA) – No cases of coronavirus have been confirmed to date, Minister of Health and Social Services Kalumbi Shangula said Wednesday.
Speaking at a media briefing in Windhoek, Shangula said, as of 10 March 2020, nine suspected cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) had been reported countrywide, but the results of all tests were negative.
He said two suspected cases were recorded in Lüderitz, two in Rehoboth, four in Windhoek and one at the Onandjokwe State Hospital.
There were also two false alarms reported at Okahandja and Oranjemund, he added.
“I want to underscore that our surveillance system is reliable and that Namibia has no confirmed COVID-19 case to date,” he said.
The minister further noted that Namibia now has the capacity to carry out confirmatory tests for COVID-19 locally through the Namibia Institute of Pathology.
“The capability of the NIP to conduct these tests places Namibia among a few African countries that conduct such tests domestically,” said Shangula.
The minister appealed to the public to avoid sharing unsubstantiated information about suspected COVID-19 cases.
On his part, NIP Chief Executive Officer Dr David Uirab said despite the shortage of testing materials and reagents worldwide, the institution is ready to conduct tests on specimens.
“NIP has labs in all 14 regions. We’ve ensured that all our staff members know how to handle specimen in terms of safety, packaging and how they should be transported to the central lab where the testing takes place,” Uirab said.
