Definitely good news, isn't it!

Dear Rolf,
This is not quite correct. Driving by yourself will still be possible, on a slightly shorter route, and at no extra charge.
Please see the activities explanation below.
As of 2019 the self-drive route is confined to the immediate surrounds of the Hideout and further access to the Reserve will only be possible with the guided drives.
This will now become a scheduled activity in the afternoon on every alternate day (excluding Sundays), with guests sharing the vehicle with other guests, at a maximum of 10 passengers.
It will be a minimum 2 hour drive into the high dunes with spectacular vistas and end just after sunset (No night driving permitted in a dark sky reserve)
On the other days, there will be a scheduled guided desert dune walk in the mornings, with transfer to the dunes included. .
This will be an educational tour conducted by our qualified desert guide and is like “reading the desert morning newspaper”
In order to experience both of these activities we recommend a two night stay in our special Reserve. However if you are pressed for time you can arrive in the early afternoon and may still enjoy both a drive and a walk even with only one night stay – except on Sundays.
The self-drive area is now confined to a circular route leading up to the sun-downer dune and the sand-boarding area.
This still provides a good 10km of self-drive track with some challenging dune driving included for the 4*4 enthusiasts and a beautiful view from the sun-downer dune. No self-drive permit will be needed for this route and the use thereof is included in the park fee.
Other activities like dune boarding and fat bike hire stay the same as is, but the dune boarding can now also be booked as a guided activity.
Kind regards,
Mandy
