The Palmwag Concession
As you may be aware, negotiations around the Palmwag Concession have been ongoing for well over a year now. This has been quite a marathon, involving many discussions and many months of lengthy and arduous deliberations. We are happy to announce that in late August 2012, Wilderness Safaris was eventually awarded this concession for a period of 20 years, and the official signing was done on 21 August 2012.
The nature of the new contract has changed somewhat, and although Wilderness Safaris will continue with operations of Desert Rhino Camp as normal, and proceed with the building and operating of the new Hoanib Camp next year (further details on this to follow in due course), we will be retracting completely from all involvement at Palmwag Lodge, Palmwag Campsite and the Palmwag Fuel station as from 31 October 2012. We are assisting the conservancies with these operations until 31 October 2012, after which all Wilderness Safaris involvement will cease, and the conservancies will select another party to operate this specific lodge.
As soon as this new operator is selected, we are sure they will make contact with all relevant parties to inform them of their plans going forward regarding the booking sheets and the continued operation of Palmwag Lodge specifically.
It has been extremely difficult operating in this concession during the period of these very extensive negotiations, and we have made every effort to maintain our standards throughout this time. However, should this have impacted adversely on our guests, we would like to offer our most sincere apologies. Now that the ‘governance’ has been taken care of, we are confident that we can once again achieve the very high standards that we at Wilderness Safaris aspire to.
