Originaltext/Beschreibung:
Doro !Nawas, Wilderness Safaris Namibia newest camp, will be opening this August. Located in the Damaraland region, the camp is set on the edge of the dry Aba-Huab River with spectacular views of the Etendeka Mountains to the north and the red sandstone cliffs of Twyfelfontein to the South. This exciting new destination is a joint venture between Namibian investors, the local community and Wilderness Safaris.
The unique lodge design and outline allows for an unspoilt panoramic view of this diverse and dramatic landscape, which varies from tabletop outcrops, small canyons, dry riverbeds to vistas of grass-filled savannahs.
The secluded appeal of a campsite nestled amidst metamorphic rock that is between 600 and 800 million years old, needs to be experienced to be truly appreciated. It’s a combination of ancient wonder and modern luxury. It’s the natural way to retreat and relax.
The 16 camp units have been designed to blend into the breathtaking natural surrounds, with particular attention having been paid to guests’ comfort and luxury in semi-arid desert conditions. The exteriors are all canvas and natural stone, with thatch roofs. There are wooden framed glass doors to enhance the exquisite views. Combine this with full en-suite facilities, including an outdoor shower, ‘his and her’ basins and flush toilet, plus open veranda and you have a uniquely organic place to call home.
The central main area has been designed to give guests an even closer appreciation of the beautiful countryside. Part of the roof acts as a lookout point where one can watch the sun rise or set, or enjoy al fresco dining under a galaxy of stars. There’s also a pool, bar, curio shop, gallery and relaxation area as well as an indoor dining spot.
Activities will mostly revolve around the game found in the riverbed and along the valleys, which may fill with floodwater during the rainy season. You’re likely to spot a lot of wildlife. The rare Desert Elephant, Oryx, Kudu, Springbok, Black Rhino, Hartman’s Mountain Zebra and Ostrich, as well as a variety of other species are found in this region. In addition, this is the perfect place for avid bird watchers. Doro !Nawas offers day and night game drives in Land Rovers, we’ll also take you out to experience the mesmerising San Rock Art at Twyfelfontein.
Doro !Nawas is the perfect base from which to explore this gloriously untouched part of Namibia and also provides a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the economic empowerment of the local community. If you don’t fancy the drive then it can be reached by air charter. Either way you’ll find that once you reach the campsite, you’ll know that you’ve discovered a truly special and unique part of Mother Earth.
