Hallo Selbstfahrer,
Also keine Anfänger!
1. Tsetse im Tarangire
"The other problem with Tarangire was the tsetse flies - they are all over Tarangire now - it is even worse than Manyara. We had never experienced tsetses in Tarangire before, so this was new. They were dreadful. The park seems to be making no effort to control them - there were no tsetse traps."
2. NCA Wagen tariff
"regarding the NCAA - they charged us US$130 per night (for our three days at Ngorongoro) for the 4x4 - not the US$40 we were expecting, so be warned. This is new - nice of SD to warn us - NOT! The new NCAA 4x4 fee almost doubled our NCAA fees - another rude surprise after the new concession fee added on by Tanapa. This trip is even more expensive than we had planned."
3. Buchungen sind nicht verlâsslich
"We have visited Tanapa in Arusha twice and the fellow who looks after the campsite bookings has been wonderful - he has visited ........, so he was very friendly when he realized that is where we are from. He has helped us move to better campsites. I am furious that we were bumped off sites that we booked a year ago but he explained that Tanapa gives priority to their big clients (Leopard Tours and other mobile operators) - his hands are tied. He is required to give them priority. However, he worked in the Serengeti for many years and knows all the campsites, so he helped us change from the one we were assigned in the Serengeti (down by Naabi Hill - really?? - you've got to be kidding - for 4 nights??) to Sero 4, which will be closer to the action. "
4. Crazy Crater Drivers
"Honestly, the crater was a bit of a nightmare. I am not certain we would go back. We went in when the gates opened at 6am and the first two hours were wonderful - for 1.5hrs we did not see another vehicle. However, from then on it was a nightmare. The guides were awful - aggressive, unfriendly, driving around like lunatics from sighting to sighting, showering us with dust. We even on three occasions have guides drive between us and what we were looking at - at full speed. They didn't even slow down. It was dreadful. At the hippo pool, we were sitting looking at the birds and a guide pulled his vehicle in next to us and completely blocked our view. Really? He swore at us when I took a photo of him and his license plate. If we could pay an hourly rate and just go for the first two hours it would be worth it. US$295 for that aggravation - not worth it. "
