Hi Logi,
Christian

Suspected axe murderer arrested
Niel Terblanche
The relentless search for the 22-year-old man wanted in connection with the brutal murder of the 59-year-old Hendrik Petrus (Henry) Coetzee on a resettlement farm about five kilometres outside Otjimbingwe on Saturday evening ended when the suspect was arrested in Rundu on Monday afternoon.
The arrest of the suspected axe murderer in Rundu maintains the Namibian Police’s near perfect success rate in resolving all farm murder cases in the country within a very short time span.
The swift action of all police officers involved meant that the suspect was prevented from possibly crossing the border into Angola after he travelled the nearly 750 kilometres from Otjimbingwe to Rundu in approximately 36 hours.
According to Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, the young man who was employed on the farm escaped on foot after rolling Coetzee’s GWM light pick-up truck after stealing the vehicle and abducting the deceased person’s wife on Saturday night.
The brutal murder only came to light after the rescue of the murder victim’s wife, Maria Coetzee, while she was stumbling along next to the gravel road between Otjimbingwe and Wilhelmstal on Sunday afternoon.
Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu congratulated his colleagues in the Kavango East Region for their swift actions that led to the arrest of the suspected axe murderer.
“Diligent by all officers involved paid off when the suspect was taken into custody about two hours after midday on Monday.”
The hunt for the murder suspect covered a large area of Namibia and initial police intelligence indicated that he might be hiding in Otjiwarongo, Grootfontein or Rundu.
The suspect will make his first appearance before the Rundu Magistrate’s Court. From there he will be transported back to Karibib where the case is registered for further processing.
